Resarch Paper

Piping plovers are sand birds that nest and breed on flat and open beaches and along rivers and lake shores. According to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (2003), piping plovers began to become in danger in the late 1800s to early 1900s, because people were hunting piping plovers for the millinery trade and wanton shooting sports. Moreover, people also used to use its feathers and the birds on hats as a way of decoration, thus contributing to its decline. In 1918 was introduced the Migratory Bird Treat Act, which made hutting piping plovers illegal. Thus, due to this law the number of piping plovers recovered. However, after the Second World War the number of piping plovers started to decline due to the increase of the number of people frequenting the beaches, thereby contributing to piping plover’s habitat loss and by disturbing them. In addition, recreational activities and commercial developments along or near the beaches were threatening them. Therefore, it was discovered only in 1986 that piping plovers were endangered. Since then, organizations that protect piping plovers from danger and voluntaries people had been done so many things to protect them. However, the efforts seem to be insufficient because the number of piping plovers is still declining (J. Dineen, 2008)

Therefore, piping plovers can be protected by introducing programs “to educate students about piping” (piping plover.fws.gov 2002), “to fence off or to install electric fence around the piping plovers’ area” ( Division of Fish & Wildlife, 2008, para,3), by closing the beaches and areas for conservation of piping plovers, and by not allowing people to leave food or food containers on the beach (U.S Fish and Wildlife Service).

First, one of the ways to protect piping plovers from danger and extinction is to first inform and “to educate students about piping” (piping plover.fws.gov 2002). For instance, in New Jersey environmentalists and volunteers that protect piping plovers, inform the public about piping plovers nesting and breeding through posted messages near piping plover’s area. On the posts the messages explain the piping plover’s biology and life requirements. Besides that, they also post massages about piping plovers’ predators like cats and dogs because some people walk with them on the beaches. Piping plovers’ eggs are too tiny to see; thus, as some people are aware of piping plovers’ eggs characteristics, which can make them walk more carefully on the beaches so that they do not step on the eggs, pets do not have that information, which make ok some of them step on the eggs. That is why pets are not allowed near the piping plovers’ area. In addition, adult piping plovers are able to fly or run whenever there is a danger or whenever they see a predator like cats or dogs; however, piping plovers chicks do not start fly by the time they are born; they take time to learn, which makes them vulnerable to be attacked by cats and dogs. Moreover, piping plover’s chicks stop moving or walking whenever they are alarmed, thus making them exposed to predators like dogs and cats (Yee, 2008). Another way of informing the public about piping plovers’ is to educate students about piping plovers, as the major factor of piping plover extinction are human activities. Nowadays most young people spend more time in the school than at home, and that is where they get more information about sciences and general information about the history of humans and animals as well as how things on the earth depend on each other to make the earths’ circle of life continue to exist. In addition, teachers at school can explain better to the students about piping plovers because they are trained for that and they can easily get access to any kind of information to prove what they are saying through scientific laboratories and history laboratories. The program about piping plovers’ problems has already been introduced in some schools, and the purposes of the program are, first, is to explain the piping plovers’ habitat needs. As piping plovers are according to Wikipedia (2008, para,1) “shorebirds that nests and feeds along coastal sand and gravel beaches,” and as we all might know many people like to frequented the beaches and the problem is that the same places where piping plovers breed and nest are also the places that humans like. Thus, making the stronger and the resistible to stay because the piping plover are unable and cannot share the same places with humans on the beaches. Second, is to explain the piping plovers’ (piping plover) “behavior and general characteristics, because by knowing the characteristics of piping plovers will able the students to easily identify them and its behavior may call their attention to these birds and touch their hearts and emotions. For instance, before I heard about piping plovers through Mr Leverett and that they were in extinction I did not know that piping plovers were in danger and near extinction, and I was not interested in knowing or exploring the piping plovers life though my major is biology and about any species in danger, however, after he had talked and explained how the piping plovers look and its appearance, I researched and I discovered that according to Nature Works the piping plover “ is a small, sparrow-sized shorebird. It is about five to seven inches in length. It is a sandy brown-gray on its back and white on its underside. It has a black or brown neck band; a black tip on its tail; white eyebrows; a black band across its forehead; yellow-orange legs and feet; and a small, stubby orange bill with a black tip. In winter, the piping plover’s black bands fade or disappear and its legs fade to a paler yellow-orange and its bill becomes black. Males and females are similar in appearance, but the male is larger and the base of its bill is brighter orange during breeding season.” (Nature Works, 2008, para,1), and I also discovered the way piping plovers behave which means according to Nature Works “piping plovers return to its breeding ground in late March or early April. The male piping plover courts the female by flying over her and swooping down close to the ground. The male selects the nest site and defends it from other plovers. He then starts scraping a nest in the sand above the high tide line. Both male and female may toss stones and shell fragments into the depression” (Nature Works, 2008, para3). In addition, according to U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, “when predator or other intruders come close, the young squat motionless on the sand while the parents attempt to attract the attention of intruders to themselves, often by feigning a broken wing” (U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, 2008, para, 4), therefore, by the time I came to know the piping plovers’ characteristics and behavior I became more interested in protecting piping plovers. In addition, the love that piping plovers demonstrate when they call the attention of the predator so that they do not harm the chicks really touched my heart. I came to understand that not only people love their children but piping plovers also love and care about their families. Therefore, I believe that in the same way that piping plovers touched my heart, they will also touch the heart of other students. Third, is to let the students to know according to U.S Fish the “response of human activities” which lead to the reduction of the number of piping plovers. Fourth, is to explain the U.S. Fish “threats to the specie” (U.S. Fish), which are according to U.S Fish (1) “commercial, residential and recreational development along the coasts. (2) Human disturbance often curtails breeding success. (3) Foot and vehicular traffic may crush nests or young. (4) Excessive disturbance may cause the parents to desert the nests. (5) Pets, especially dogs, may harass the birds, (6) developments near beaches provide food that attracts increased number of predators” (U.S. Fish). Fifth, is to explain the ways to protect piping plovers. Therefore, the goals of these lessons is that by the end the students will be able to understand the piping plovers problems and that they will be capable to first, according to U.S Fish of describing the life history of the piping plovers, second, locate suitable piping plover nesting habitat, third, explain how human activity has adversely affected this specie, and finally, identify efforts to protect the piping plover. Consequently, this program will open the mind of students about piping plovers, and the students will have more information about them. Thus, it will crease the number of people in protecting piping plovers and who will be concerned about them.

Second, we can protect piping plovers through a plan “to fence off or to install electric fence around the piping plovers’ area” (Division of Fish & Wildlife) because most of piping plovers’ predators invade their area to hunt them and to eat their eggs. Therefore, with the installations of the fences the predators will not be able to invade the piping plover’s area. For instance, piping plovers in Canada are also in danger and in approaching, thus; to protect them voluntees and workers from organizations like Earth Justice install electric fences or fences without electricity which allows only the adults piping plovers to get out, but does not allow the chicks to get out, because the chicks are not able to defend themselves from predators. Thus, if we could try to use the same methods mentioned above we may succeed in protecting them from the predators.

Third, we should close the beaches and areas for conservation of piping plovers, as the major problem for piping plover’s declination are the presence of humans. Immoderate presence of humans near the breeding and nesting areas may make the piping plover parents forsake the nests with eggs and chicks thus leaving the eggs and chicks vulnerable to predators and summer sun which damages the eggs. Moreover, the desertion of the parents may put pressure the chicks during the growing period. Furthermore, some of people whenever they go the beaches they take pets like dogs and cats which are piping plovers’ predator (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 2004, para, 3). Therefore, we can notice that besides the humans being the major problem for the reduction of the number of piping plovers they also increase the piping plovers problems by bringing with them pets which are piping plovers’ predators. Thus, by dividing the beaches for the conservation of piping plovers, humans will not be allowed or able to enter in the piping plovers’ territory, thereby, making the piping plovers able to nest, live and breed without any disturbance.

Fourth, the other way to protect piping plovers is to not allow people to leave food or food containers on the beach (U.S Fish and Wildlife Service). Over Left of food on the beaches attracts predator like raccoons, skunks and foxes. Besides that, it also attracts cats which are piping plovers’ eggs and chick’s predators (U.S Fish and Wildlife Service, para3). Therefore, with less or any food on the beaches, there will be no predators or the number of predators will reduce. Thereby, with fewer predators there will be more eggs and the chicks will be able to grow in a peaceful environment. Consequently, when the chicks will be grown up they will nest and a generation will breed, thus, increasing the number of the next generation of piping plovers.
Opponents of protecting piping plovers from danger and extinction claim that there is no need for protecting piping plovers because they are just birds and not people. Then, we have to worry about helping people because they have feelings and they also belong to families. In addition, they also claim that the world would not know the difference without piping plovers. Besides that, plovers do not contribute to anything in the world, they are birds and will always be birds. However, every species plays a role in the world, from the least creature to the biggest creature. The world survives and depends on cycles and we all rely on these cycles to maintain and also to equilibrate the ecosystem and the biodiversity. Therefore, with the extinction of piping plovers, there will be something lacking to make the earth’s cycles to carry on. Thus, with the lack of piping plovers in the earth, the earth’s cycles will be disturbed. Thus, as the earth will be disturbed it will also negatively affect us, the environment and the ecosystem. As it will negatively affect us and the ecosystem and the environment where we live our lives will be in danger, therefore leading to the extinction of the human being.

There are so many ways tried by volunteers and organizations that implements new strategies of protecting piping plovers. However, until these days they have not fully succeeded in recovering the large number of piping plovers. Thus, the new strategies like closing the beaches and areas for conservation of piping plovers, informing the public about piping plover biology and life requirements, and fencing or installing electric fence will be more helpful in protecting piping plovers. Would you imagine the world without birds? How sad and uncolored would be the world. Thus, as the world would not make much sense without them we should consider and contribute in protecting them.

Abstract
The topic of this paper is alternate ways of protecting piping plovers. It argues that we should contribute in the protection of piping plovers because they are in danger of extinction. There four reasons for this argument. First, many people are not aware of the piping plovers. Second, in some beaches’ area where piping plovers nest and breed they are not fenced off or fenced with an electric fence protect them. Finally, some people to leave food or food containers on the beach (U.S Fish and Wildlife Service).

Online Shopping

Have you ever thought of doing your shopping from your home or work place and with the possibility of comparing the prices? With the development of technology it is now possible. On-line shopping is one of the easiest ways to shop and get what you are looking for. As we all might know that we are living in a busy society where time counts a lot. Thus, with the possibility of shopping from any place it makes life easier for many people.

However, on-line shopping has some advantage like, getting favorable and affordable prices, and disadvantages, like losing credit card data, and it brings a way for thieves to steal easily.

The best affordable and favorable prices are found online. As the time matters a lot in this society, many people do not have enough time to go to different malls or shops to compare the prices. Online shopping is not limited and “it allows you to get great deals when you compare prices of the same item from different online shops"( Robertson, 2006, para, 1).For instance, I have classes every day from 8 am to 3 pm, and over the weekends I am always busy with house work and homework from CESL; thus, I have no time to go to the University Mall and Marion Mall so that I can compare the prices; therefore, with the possibilities of shopping online make my life easy, because I get what I am looking for with financial conditions that meet my needs and finances. Thereby, shopping online has better advantages to me.

The easiest way of getting things can also be the easiest way of losing things. Shopping online can be the easiest way of getting almost whatever we need, but at the same time it is also the easiest way where “ your credit card information can be stolen”(Epinions.com, 2008, para, 1).For instance, my friend lost money while shopping online. She saw an advertisement about a diet tea. Then she could not resist, and ended up buying it. Afterwards she found out that she was having a big bill from nowhere. However, she had no way to prove that the bill was not hers. Therefore, she lost a lot of money through online shopping for tea.

Online shopping brings great advantages to thieves. Many thieves are finding online shopping as a good way of stealing from people who use it and not being caught. As the technology can be used to achieve good things it can also be used to achieve bad things. It can make some impossible things possible, thus fevering the online thieves. For instance, some movies illustrate how technology is being used in crimes.

Online shopping can have its own disadvantage; however, it does not mean that we should stop buying online. It means that we can still buy things online but we must be very careful. We should first try to find out from people who used the same site before if it is a trustful website. Thus, if you do not know anybody who used it before, you will have to investigate the case before buying anything.

My Favorite Food

Fluency Exercise #6

To prepare my favorite food I usually use coconut, row bananas, mandioca leaves and peanuts. The first thing to do before starting is to get a coconut, then break it into two pieces so that you can get what is inside it. To remove what is in it you scrape it in a proper machine. After that you mix the scraped coconut with hot water so that it can release a kind of liquid that looks like milk. After that you keep the milk in a container. Then, peel the bananas and cut them in pieces. The mandioca is a tree only found in Africa. Cook the bananas in a pot together with mandioca leaves, peanuts and later on pour the coconut milk in the pot to mix with the bananas and peanuts. After all will have cooked, you can eat it.

The Most Precious Things in our Live

Anna’s Assign

Things that we most value in our lives may vary from person to person. I think that in general what is precious too many people is friendship, family and the most precious is money. Friendship is something important in our lives because their things that we do not easily share with our parents, but with our friends. In addition, I believe that humans need one another, which is why that the world has many people. Moreover, there things that we do not find in our parents, but in friends and at times that where we learn new things. However, to other people what is precious is the members of their family especially their parents. As most of our parents wish the best for our lives and they are always ready to help us in everything in their capacity. In addition, if there is something rare to hear is about a parent or parents that disappoint the child by not offering any support which might be material or psychological. Money is the most precious thing to some people. Many people are ready to do everything when comes to money issue. Even if you had friend for so many years by the time he/she looses material things like job or money the friendship may break for that reason. As we all might know that in these days is difficult find people with love for one another in their hearts, many people pretend to be good to other but not with their all heart. The real world is full of cursing one another, betrayal, lies and killing or stealing for the circle of money. That is why to me the most precious things is the one who created me and my parents. Friends are also precious but the problem is that the true friends are rare.

The next Invention
Can you imagine the cities without carbon dioxide pollution? Thus, if you can imagine and believe, then we will soon have cars that will use water instead of fossil fuel. In addition, scientists are investigating other alternatives with the rinds of lemon and other citrus fruits to substitute for harmful chemicals like CFCs which deplete the ozone layer. These harmful chemicals not only deplete the ozone layer, they also harm our health. Therefore, I believe that we will soon enjoy clean air and breathe fresh air. Besides that, the ozone layer will stop being depleted; thus, fewer ultraviolet rays will heat the earth’s surface. Moreover, we will soon be able to go to the beach without having to apply strong products on the skin against ultraviolet rays. Thereby, the new cars that will use water and the rind of lemon and other citrus fruit will make a difference and make better changes in the world.

The Loneness

Annas’ assign

There so many reasons for some people to like or feel like to be alone. The reasons may vary from one person to another. Some people are always alone because of their background. I have noticed that the majority of people who have lost one or both parents tend to be always alone. The other reason that can make people to be alone is their religion. As each religion has its own principles and what might be wrong to some religions might also be right in other religions. Thus, some people do not feel comfortable with people from a religion which is different from theirs. Financial conditions can also influence and make people to despise those have financial conditions different from theirs. As we all might know that many people judge others based on their financial states. Most of people who have a lot of money and are famous have many friends, thereby; making them always busy or accompanied by friends. The behavior also contributes to make some people to be alone. Most of the people do not like to be with a violent person, somebody who thinks that is better than others and with somebody who is too passive. Therefore, if the person has all these qualities will tend to be always alone. I like to be alone but not most of the times. Back in my country I used to go to the beach and spend time over there alone watching the wave seas’. It made me relax and think about myself and my plans. I think that we all need time for ourselves by ourselves. To be alone is not strange to me because behind any loneness there must be a reason for that.

Common Ways that People in my Country Meet the Love of their Live

Anna's assign

People in my country meet the love of their live in many different ways. The most common, popular, and traditional is arranged married. However, some people meet their loved ones through friends, at their work place, college or university, church, radio and through wizards. Arranged married are from generation to generation, is our tradition and is the most trustful. In the arranged married the parents from the girl and the boy decided or arrange the marriage when both the girl and the boy are still babies. Thus, by the time they will be already grown up, they will have to get married because their parents have already decided and they are not supposed to break the promise. Before the girl leaves her parents to go and stay with her husband, the boy has to pay or give a lot of money to the girl parents. Besides it the boy has to buy clothes to the girl’s parents that have to fill at least three luggages. Most of the parents who arrange married to their daughter or son believe that ancestors play an important role in deciding and choosing the future couple that will get married. Therefore, many couples do not easily divorce because they believe that who arranged their married are the ancestors. Thus, if they divorce or think of divorcing they will be disrespecting, breaking the pacts and they will be cursing themselves. The churches in my country play an important role in making people to meet by making services for singles who are looking for a partner. The other popular way in which people meet their loved ones is through the radio. Most of radios stations have romantic programs in which people call and leave their details like age, height, educational level and from where they are. Then if somebody will be interested in the person with these characteristics will call to the radio to find out how to meet the person. However, meeting through the internet is not common and popular in my country. Thus, people would rather consult the wizards about with whom to get married, where to find to find the person, how to get or impress the person and what kind of magic can be used to call and seduce the person. Those who do not believe or trust in the wizards and do not have any arranged married, do not think that radio programs or church services can work wait for the opportunity to come by searching around in their work place, college and university.

The best ways to learn vocabulary

Fluency #5

Did you know that the best ways to learn vocabulary or new words is to know the synonyms and antonyms of each new word you come across? However, before you check the synonyms and antonyms of the new word you come across you should first get a dictionary from the language you are trying to get more words from. If your first language is different from the language you are trying to know vocabulary words of: then, never translate the words from your own language to the language you are trying to get more vocabulary words of because it will confuse you. Besides these ways, you should read as much as possible, more novels, newspaper and magazines that interest you. If you come across a word you do not know, do not rush to get the meaning from a dictionary; first try to guess and replace it with the words you already know to see if the sentence will make sense. However, if the first strategy of guessing and replacing did not work then find its meaning from the dictionary and later on get the synonyms and antonyms of the word.

Dreams and Fear

Anna's assign

I believed that most of the dreams are achieved through hard work and behind each dream there is fear. However, some do not require any hard word and has no fear. Dreams to me are things that we first think and start to imagine ourselves with the things that we wish to have. Thus, to materialize or make them come true is quite impossible to many people and that is from where the fears start. Most of the times we have the will and desire to make them happen but at the same time you fear because we doubt about ourselves in making it happen. For instance, I always wanted to finish my degree program at University of Manchester in United Kingdom (UK) because that is where most of my family members studied and got their degrees and most of my friends are there. Besides that, I always knew if I were to go and stay there I would not feel lonely and lost. Thus, in order to get a place at Manchester University I had to write Cambridge exams which are very difficult, and it took more than eight month to prepare for it. In addition, my first language is not English but Portuguese and in my country we learn everything in Portuguese at schools. Then, I prepared for my exams without any knowledge of English; fortunately I scored a good score. Besides scoring a good score I had to come here to learn English in order to fulfill my dream. Before I come I was so scared because I was going to a new place without any friend or relative and knowing that I would go through difficult moment that I had never went through in my all life. So, every dream demands its sacrifice like working or studying hard in order to achieve it. I believe that everything bad or good starts from a dream and it has its own fear.

Holiday in the memory of dead

Anna's assign

In my country we do not have a holyday around this time. We have a holyday quite similar to Halloween and we celebrate in February third. The holyday is celebrated in the memory of the warriors who fought for the liberation of the country against colonialists and in the memory of the first president who was killed by a bomb which was in an envelope. The holyday is celebrated on the third of February. The day before it people from throughout the country gather in the capital city of the country in a place called marraquene. People celebrate in that place because they believe that the first warrior who was also a king was buried near a river close to marraquene. Most of people who go there carry food and traditional bear made of a fermentation of small edible nut called cashew. All the regulos which are very old from the time of colonialist who used to work to the colonialists by controlling the population from not revolting against the colonialist must be present to invoke the dead’s spirits. These people called regulos are given the traditional bear to pour on the ground while they are invoking the dead’s spirits. Then, after they finished invoking usually a hippopotamus comes out from the river in sign that the dead had accepted the offering which is the traditional bear. After the hippopotamus comes out some people capture it and kill it, some of its meet is cooked and the other is grilled; thus, they spend the all night dancing, playing in the river and eating the hippopotamus meet till the next day which is February third.

Piping plover recoveries depends also of environmental solutions

Piping plover recoveries depends also of environmental solutions

In “Ways of Humans, Nature Take Toll on Birds” the author states how the human actions are making piping plovers become extinction. First, humans are invading and occupying piping plover's places once they were regaining it from extinction. This has made a number of piping plovers reduced by 10 percent, down to 480 from 538 within four years, due to the increase of people and human actions like allowing cats to wander free. In addition, human’s closeness endangers them by making them exposed to pets, cars and animals that eat birds. Therefore, unpaid helpers and the municipalities are observing piping plovers in 100 different places where these bird nest and live. In the past 20 years organizations like 'Mass'. Audubon have succeeded in enlarging the number of piping plover from 130 couples to 500 couples with the help of high school students. Although forests are developing, it does not help birds reproduce, and does not enable them to get food due to the lack of brightness, extended air and dry surface with ‘shrubs’. Myles Standish State Forest has favorable conditions for birds to reproduce and get food due to fire created by itself. Population growth does not favor birds like whip-poor-will, because the places where they stay are being pushed in by people using the beaches and human’s habitat can easily provide fire which, is good for birds. Birds like bobolink, the eastern meadow lark and the upland sandpiper had demonstrated an increase in growth number through the last century. However, they are uncommon these days. Consequently, to keep these birds from extinction natural fire should be allowed to a certain level and we should maintain power line right-of-way cuts at a level that is better for the birds.

Bird’s population cannot be maintained due to the water pollution, natural diseases and the tourism industry.

Contaminated water can create health problems for the piping plover. Many countries use oceans as bin trash. Therefore, most of the substances thrown in the oceans are extremely harmful. Humans can protect themselves by applying chemicals in the tanks which keep water or by buying mineral water. However, the system of protection does not apply to these birds. In addition, although we can get sick and die, we can also prevent it by saying what we are feeling. However, this bird cannot do it, making them more vulnerable to dangerous kinds of infections. For instance in my country there is an industry that throws trash in a river close to it. The number of fish in that river has decreased and of birds that stay around that place. As the water travels and rivers are connected to themselves and the ocean, it makes it even more difficult to defend them.

In these days there are so many natural diseases affecting birds, for example the avian flu, which killed over two billion bird in Europe, especially in the UK and Italy as well as in Asia. Until now the scientists have not already discovery the cure. Thus, if the same disease attacks again, many more birds will be in danger. Besides the avian flu the PBFD virus is killing many ducks in my country in 2004. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this bird’s disease.

The tourism industry contributes to the reduction of the piping plover. Most tourism industries advertise beaches and lakes. Therefore, these advertisements attract and persuade a large number of people to explore the beaches and lakes. However, piping plovers nest and feed along coastal sand and gravel beaches. Thus, these advertisements make people and birds to share the same place, which is impossible. Besides that some like to walk along the sea or lakes with their pets. Consequently, they walk on the bird’s eggs by accident. In addition, piping plover usually stops feeding when people or pets come closer. For instance, Pemba is an island in my country. It attracts a large number of tourists through advertisements making the sandy beach birds in danger. The population and tourists leave garbage on the beach, which attracts predators, drive along the sea and accidentally step on the eggs and some birds die because they are too tiny as well as their eggs. Since the tourist industry has begun to advertise nice places in my country the country’s economy has changed for better. Therefore, this situation is making the government not to abolish the advertisements because the tourism industry is making the economy to grow.

To protect piping plovers from death is quite impossible due to water pollution, natural diseases and tourism industry. The author has deep feeling concerning birds but the current environmental problems and new incurable diseases make it difficult to conserve them.

Piping Plover’s Protections in Revere

In Yee’s (2007) article “One hot beach chick: piping plover breed,” he explains how piping plovers are surviving on a busy beach. First, piping plovers are raising their chicks in the busiest beach; thus, it brings expectations to environmentalists. Since 1985, when it was discovered that plovers were endangered, Massachusetts Beach has displayed a great number of piping plovers residing there after bird’s protection program like Commonwealth had been running. However, the only thing that is worrying the bird’s protection programs is that in these days out of four plover’s eggs only one reproduced while in 1992 a couple would raise two chicks. In addition, hunters like foxes, skunks and seagulls are coming to be skilful in hunting plovers due to the extended number of plovers. Besides that, plover’s eggs are difficult to see by people and chicks stop moving when alarmed; consequently, this makes them exposed to be stepped on by cars. Furthermore, in Massachusetts beach over 2.5 million people frequent every year, thus endangering the plovers. Finally, to protect these birds Corona’s unpaid helpers surrounded an area with 500-yard with a rope and sand-rakers were forbidden from removing dirt in the region.

All ways mentioned in this article to protect piping plovers are not enough. Therefore, besides blocking off stretches of shoreline with twine and snow fencing, and by enclosing the yards with stretch with sticks, twine, and yellow caution tape, we should also keep the eggs in a veterinarian hospital, surround the area with electric fence and separate the beach.

Piping plover’s eggs must be kept in an incubator until the chicks are born. Piping plover’s eggs are too tiny to be seen; thus, people and animals that frequent the beach can easily step on them. In addition, plover’s chicks when alarmed with thing like a car do not move and stay in the same position or place making them vulnerable to being run over by cars. Therefore, if we collect the eggs from the beach to the incubator, we can keep them until the chicks are born and start to fly and release them to the environment. Moreover, by the time they are released people will be able to see them and they will be able to defend themselves against predators. ( Novaes. F, 2008) for instance, in Brazil there is a bird in danger called antwren that stays near the Amazon forest. Its protectors are collecting the antwren’s eggs to the incubator until they are born. Since they started using this system they have been noticing a great number of antwrens recovering. It allows them to make antwren less vulnerable from predators and forest burning. Thus, if we implemented the same system it would be very useful in protecting piping plovers.

The use of electric fences is also another way of defending piping plovers. (Abbott. S, 2007) for example, in Canada organizations like the Conservatory are using electric fences in defending piping plovers. The organization has succeeded in protecting over 2 million birds in danger. The electric fence does not harm what is inside it, only what’s out side of it. Thus, pets, predators and people are electrified whenever they are trying to get in. Besides Canada, the same system is being used in Australia to protect red-footed booby birds from extinction. All these countries are succeeding in protecting birds from extinction; thus, we should also try to do the same for the piping plover.

The beach’s area must be divided and limited. There must be areas for birds and for people so that people will not go to the bird’s areas or birds to the people area. For instance, in my country we had a problem of some marine species’ approaching extinction. Many foreigners and Tanzanians were capturing some marine species and sending them to Europe. Thus, the government decided to separate the ocean area. We now have areas which are only frequented by people and others which only people whose jobs and studies are related to marine ecology. Therefore, the number of people who hunt marine species has been reduced and a number of marine species near extinction are now recovering. However, in this Massachusetts beach the beach is not divided for people and birds; then, they also have to start using this method to give more help to piping plovers.

The methods mentioned in this article to defend piping plover are useful. However, to increase the ways of protecting plovers so that they cannot be exposed to predators or people, they should also keep the eggs in an incubator until they are born, surround the bird’s area with electric fence and separate or divide the beach. Birds are one of the things that make our environment alive and colorful. They belong to our history and they are part of one of the best wonders in the world. Therefore, we need to collaborate in protecting them from danger and extinction.

Technology Influences in Learning Language

Fluency #4

Do you think that it is possible to learn a language by yourself? In the past days it was impossible; however, in these days it is possible. Technology is developing to the extent of doing things that humans can do. For instance, some computers are programmed to make some corrections if the learner makes some mistakes. Therefore, it encourages the learner to write more and express her/his thoughts without worrying about the mistakes. It also helps in correcting grammar order; thus, it empowers the learner to write and publish her/his work when there is nobody to correct it. Besides that, people can also practice how to pronounce some difficult words with strong accent. Therefore, all the things mentioned above manipulate and facilitate the learner to learn.

Tips to learn a new language

Fluency #3

A new language can be learnt in a pleasurable way. Do you know how? Many people thing think that a language can be only learnt in a language program. There are many ways to learn a new language, and one of them is through our hobbies. The first thing you have to do, for instance, if you are somebody who can only relax or likes to listen to the music is, instead of listening to the music in your own language, try listening in the language that you are learning. Before you start you will have to get the lyrics of the song; then, while you are listening, compare what you hear with what is written. Second, try to hang around with people who speak the language you are learning. Third, get a movie with its book or novel. Most of the time it is difficult to understand the accents and the words from the movie; therefore, the novel will help you to understand the difficult words and compare what is spoken with what is written. Fourth, practice the your new vocabulary words by using them while you are speaking. I am sure that if you will follow these tips you will learn your desired new language.

The Recommended City to Visit

Fluency #2

Do you have an idea about where Nelson Mandela spent twenty- seven years? If you do not, then you should visity Cape Town in South Africa. South Africa is in the south part of Africa; it shares its boders with Mozambique in the northwest along the Indian Ocean, with Zimbabwe and Botsana in the north and with Namibia in the northeast. Cape Town is one of the best cities to visity. It has nice beaches, big shops and kind people. The most interesting thing about Cape Town is the island close to it where Nelson Mandela was jailed for twenty-seven years, which is now a museum. It attracts many people around the world because of its history. Most of people are curious to see the sale or cabin where he spent all twenty-seven years without losing hope. I know that there is the possibility of seeing the prison's picture from the Internet or TV. However, it is not like being in the place. Obviously there is always a difference between what we see from TV or Internet and the real things. Therefore, in the you will have the opportunity to see the place where he lived, the kind of car that he used to use, and his clothes as well as the island where is situated the jail which is now a center of history.

Global Warming Solutions

Global warming solutions

In T. Hirsch (2005) ‘Animals hit by global warming,’ the author explains how environmental alterations are affecting the life of animals. First he gives example sex changes in turtles due to environmental changes. It has also modified the bird’s way of traveling from one place to another. Moreover, some animals are being seen in places where they should not be and others are being seen in seasons and places where they were not supposed to be by that time. Therefore, conferences are being held to find a solution to help animals in getting used to the modifications. Although, some animals are succeeding in suiting themselves to different conditions others are not capable of it due to their places being in cold regions. Although environmental alterations help animal development, they can also block them from learning different ways of living. Finally, the old ways of defending the animal like a habitat type must be modified because it can border them from not getting enough food.

All these things are happening because of global warming; then, to solve this problem industrialized countries should change their methods of production, and we can contribute by not burning the forests and driving less
.
First, in order to stop the global warming, industrialized countries should find any alternative way for producing their goods. As the industry is developing throughout the world, especially in developed countries, it is also damaging the ozone layer. The chemicals released by the industries such as carbon and methane are extremely harmful to the ozone layer. Consequently, these chemicals break the ozone chain, thus letting the ultra violet rays pass through. For instance, in my country an industry was recently opened . Most of the people who work in that industry and are exposed to the oven get liver cancer. In my country we usually experience three seasons, but these days there is only one season; moreover, the weather is getting hotter every day. Therefore, if we could find a different way of producing the same product without harming the ozone layer and animals, it would be a good start.

Second, another way to overcome global warming is to stop burning the forests. In the past days many people used to burn forests for agriculture. However, even now days some people are still using the same method for agriculture and production of coal. Thus, miles of forests are lost each year for this activity, and more carbon dioxide is realized. For example, in my country miles of forests are burnt almost every day for coal production. Forty percent of the population is still using coal for cooking. Although the country produces and imports gas and it is a little cheaper to afford to buy it, people do not want to stop using coal. Hence, from this example we can observe that at times we have the solution and any alternative way to solve the problem, but people simply do not want to take any action.

Third, if we drive less and walk more, it will put the living species in less danger. It is true that transport is very important in this society. However, many people are using it in an exaggerated way. For instance, some students drive on campus from Larson Hall to Faner, knowing that is easier to walk than to drive. Besides harming the ozone layer through the carbon dioxide realized by the car, they might also create some health problems due to the lack of walking. However, walking or riding a bicycle is healthier than driving, even when is not necessary.

As we might now know, global warming can also be prevented by industrialized countries, by stopping burning the forests and driving less. Some countries are now experiencing invadations of seawater. Therefore, due to inundation some people are losing their loved ones and places to stay. We never know when our turn will be, but it might be right now or in five seconds to come. Thus, any good action from us which does not contribute to global warming will make a change indeed.

Vacation

Anna's assign

I spent the all break in Carbondale. I only wished to have a lot of money so that I would first of all go to my country to see my relatives and friends. I used to think like if I were at home I would be at the beach with my friends praying or having fun. I can certainly assume that during this break I was physicaly in Carbondale but psychologycaly in my country.I liked because at least I maneged to travel psychologicaly to my country. Besides dreaming I had a walk on cumpos and out of compus which was unusual since I come. The amazing thing that happened is I sow an armadillo I confese that I have never seen it alive in my entire life. The other thing is that I had more time to visit my friends and go to African group.I used to think that Carbondale is very big but I realised tha is not because I used to go to different places around here by car. However, if we walk that is when we realize tha these places are not far. In short I did not have much to do during the break but I enjoed.

Travel

Fluency #1

To travel by car is more exciting to me. First of all, traveling by car can let me stop whenever I want. Most times during the journey I usually see nice shops selling cloths and beauty products; then, if I see interesting items I only stop the car and buy them. Moreover, most restaurants and hotels are along the road; therefore, whenever I feel like tasting food from a place I can stop and get it. In addition, after finishing eating I have the opportunity to move around to get to know the culture, how the place is built and what kind of language is being spoken in that specific area. Furthermore, when the car is moving I feel good watching people, the environment and things that will be taking place like people walking, driving, running and having fun. By the we are out of town and getting into the countryside I like to watch animal that are alive and the real nature which is different from that on TV. Thus, to see how cities are built and to watch the live nature and the things found in it like animals and people make traveling by car more interesting to me.

movie

Anna's assign

The benefits of movies. Most of movies have good sides. For instance after a long day of studies some people relax their mind by watching an exciting movie.Others opt to watch it with their friends, because is so exciting that make us to share, celabrate and cry with them.Apart of watching with friends people also enjoy them with their parents or brothers.Movies, are one of the made man criations that easily catchs all the ages attention.Trough movies we can learn a different lunguage and how to clearly pronounce words. The bad parts of it.Some movies are one of bad influences in peoples in our society.Childrens and adolescents are the most affected by the movies.I have noticed that the majority of violent children or those who like to fight learn all the skill through movies. Some movies even show how drug dealers make their busines, the way the acters use their gans which is not a good exemple to the children and adolescent, because they are still in their process of growing and cannot easily differiciate what is good and bad.All these sides make this man made criation exciting.
